welcome aboard Bill.
10 oz bars are my favorites. usually a buck an ounce over spot.
approximate .715 oz per 90% face dollar. so 10/ .715 = 14 dollars face
I am NOT an expert, and it is late.......ya may want to check my work.

There is less arithmetic if you buy .999 bars. Junk silver is sometimes below melt value, sometimes above.

To confirm others calculations: 90% junk has (in theory....they have wear...) 0.715 ozt per $1 Face Value.

Thus $1 FV / 0.715 ozt......= $1.3986 Face Value / 1 ozt.

For your 10 ozt bar example.....$13.986 Face Value.

For all pratical purposes....just say 1 ozt = $1.40 Face.....10 ozt = $14 Fave Value.

To make "change" for 1 ozt bullion.....you need 14 silver dimes....

I think 90% junk is always less costly to buy than 10 ozt bars.

Stick with 2 forms of silver (just my opinion) 1) Low Premium Rounds/Bars....in mostly 1 ozt...some 10 ozt if you like.....2) Get a bunch of silver dimes....to make change for 1 ozt rounds.

BTW: I think the day will come that the pre-1982 "copper" penny will be valued at 20 copper cents per 1 silver dime.......and I'm stashing a bunch of 95% copper pennies.

Get the 10 oz. bars while you can! They are everyone's favorite and are gettting harder to come by.
10oz. Johnson & Matthey #1, Engelhard, Sunshine Mining, Wall Street #2
90% and rounds are always available.

Newb Question = By "Low Premium Rounds" I presume you do NOT mean SAE or Silver Maples, but the rounds made by the various private mints??

Correct.....in bulk, you can buy well known rounds/bars for about $0.50 to $0.90 over spot while the ASE and SML will be closer to $1.50 to $2.00 over spot.

And what would be the typical premium for 90% $100 face bags??

Thanks, Bill.
